Stand with a good balance with your hands in the back. According to my teacher, you do not stand with your hands on your waist because you look too dominant. By putting your hands in the back, you maintain your humbleness structurally. You can also grab your elbows in the back too.

Use a soft knee and move about the same speed as your heart beat. Keep your ankles soft too.

Lift your foot from the heel then the toes, and lower your foot from the toes then the heel. Here is the closeup of the foot move.

Let’s practice with things around you.

Have a cushion ready. Press with the entire foot surface with evenly distributed pressure. Here’s a slo-mo.

This is how it looks giving Sokuatsu. The posture should be straight and try not to look down too much once you learn the feeling.

Now practice dropping the heel using the edge of the cushion. Here’s a slo-mo.

Put 2 bath towels together and roll up long ways. We will use this to practice massaging legs.

Drop your toes first and drop your heel then lift the heel and lift the toes. The key is to do this around the towel and not crush the towel.

Now while doing this, move your foot to the sides where you can comfortably reach.

Caution

As you can see this requires a good balance. You may find one side is easier than the other side which is normal. We all have a dominant side. The surprise benefit for the Sokuatsu practitioner is that more you practice, you build more balance. So giving Sokuatsu is a good anti-aging activity for the practitioner.

If you can’t stand comfortably with one leg, have a chair with a high back so you have something to hold onto. You can also sit in the chair to practice. Do not ever step on the receiver unintentionally.

Practice these on both sides until you feel comfortable.
