Forehead wrinkles show signs of age. Let’s first look at how you get the horizontal wrinkles on the forehead. The forehead wrinkles are made over this muscle called frontalis that runs vertically. When this muscle contracts, you get the horizontal wrinkles. So in order to avoid or alleviate the forehead lines, you need to relax this frontalis muscle. I believe this is what Botox does too. Botox injection paralyzes the frontalis so it doesn’t contract to make the horizontal lines.

Also, this muscle connects to a tendon-like sheet called aponeurosis that goes all the way to the back of the head where it attaches to the muscle called occipitalis. It’s possible that the aponeurosis and the occipitalis are very tight to prevent the forehead muscles to relax. You need to release these areas too so they can go back to their original state and not stuck in the stretched taut state so it’s easier to bring up the forehead muscle.

Start with the front hairline in the center. With closed fingertips, move the scalp up and down 10 times then side to side 10 times. Come down a little bit and repeat up and down 10 time then side to side 10 times. Do this in 9 locations on each side of the forehead. If you have time you can do 20 or 30 times each. Then come down to above eyebrows and move up and down 10 times and side to side 10 times.

Move over to the center on both sides and move the scalp up and down 10 times then side to side 10 times. Come down a little bit and repeat up and down 10 time then side to side 10 times. Then above eyebrows up and down 10 times and side to side 10 times.

Move over to the outer edge of the forehead and move the scalp up and down 10 times then side to side 10 times. Come down halfway and repeat up and down 10 time then side to side 10 times. Then above eyebrows up and down 10 times and side to side 10 times.

Massage the top of the head in three locations with fingertips or I like to use the flat part of the fists to save my fingers. Move the scalp towards the top 10 times. And front and back 10 times. Move up and repeat. Move the scalp towards the top 10 times. And front and back 10 times. Go back a little bit and repeat. Towards the top center 10 times. And front and back 10 times. Again, you are welcome to do more.

Let’s massage the occipitalis in back of the head. I use fingertips or the flat part of the fist to move sideways 10 times and up and down 10 times. Move towards the sides and repeat. Move sideways 10 times and up and down 10 times. Move towards the sides and repeat sideways 10 times and up an down 10 times.

There are lymph nodes on the head too. Caress the head downward to move the lymph to remove the excess water or swelling in the scalp. When you remove the excess water between the cells, it naturally shrinks the scalp and lifts up the face.

When you massage the forehead, internally tell it “it’s ok to relax” instead of “go away!” Always use compassion, not aggression.
