Solid Organ #4: Lung

The lungs' main function is to oxygenate the red blood cells with the air as we breathe in. There are about 25 trillion red blood cells which is about 70% of all the cells in an adult human body. The lungs oxygenate every single red blood cell so the red blood cell's protein called hemoglobin can deliver the oxygen to rest of the cells in our body.

The lungs also remove carbon dioxide from the deoxygenated red blood cells as we breathe out.

We have two lungs but it is possible to survive with one healthy lung.

Let's touch your lungs and take a deep breath in just to give thanks to your lungs.

Lung Energy

Controls breathing
Controls hydration and bodily fluid metabolism

“Lungs govern air." Lungs combine the following 3 qi's (energies) into one major driving force qi:

- air energy taken in from breathing

- food and drink energy from spleen

- life force energy from kidney

"Lungs govern dispersion and elimination." Lungs disperse qi and fluid to the entire body and enables the functions. It controls the internal water level by evaporating bodily fluid.

Lung energy eliminates excess fluid by pushing it down and release as urine.

Lung enery is associated with nose. Cold symptoms shows up in your nose influenced by the lung energy.
